John Watts was one of Sorrento's early pioneers. He worked as a lime burner and subsequently as a fisherman, bullock driver and ranger. The first permanent settler's were pastoralists and small farmers. Many later developed a thriving limeburning business. Others established a fishing industry to supply the growing city of Melbourne.
