Prominent is the Continental Hotel opened in 1875 as part of the development of Sorrento as a healthy and beautiful beach resort in the 1870s. George Coppin, actor, entrepreneur and Parliamentarian, was instrumental in promoting the tourist potential of the area.
Many of the striking landmarks of the area are a testament to his energy and business acumen.
